Autumn 2014 Residents Survey of WCRX-LP, 102.1 FM Programming

Autumn 2014 Programming Survey for WCRX-LP, 102.1 FM. The Autumn 2014 annual programming survey was distributed to select Bexley addresses in early December. The survey materials were comprised of a two page questionnaire and a single page solicitation for volunteer support. Two hundred eighty survey packets were assembled and distributed by hand delivery. (KW and PB). Generally, distribution was made to every third house on the following streets in central Bexley and south Bexley: Grandon Avenue, Roosevelt Avenue, Fair Avenue, Bexley Park Road and Brentwood Avenue. Exceptions from this distribution pattern were made for construction sites, indicators of vacation adsence (stacks of newspapers)and similar contingencies. Survey responses. Eleven percent of the surveys distributed were completed and returned to the radio station. This eleven percent return rate is a very high return rate. It is also higher than any previous survey distributed by Bexley Public Radio Foundation. The survey instrument asked about three programming categories: music, news and information (geographical) and news and information (topical). Survey results: Music preferences and Preferences for news ands information The survey requested preferences for categories of music: Jazz, Blues, R & B, Classical, Country Western, Broadway musicals, Hip hop, and Urban contemporary. The results of this query were very close to the results of prior year surveys. There are unmistakable preferences for Jazz, Blues and R & B and Classical Music. For Geographic sources of news and information, the preferences were local (Bexley, East-side Columbus, statewide news and national news. There is also preference expressed for news from Germany, Mid-east and Europe. For topical news coverage, preferences were expressed for the areas of Economics and finance, Personal investments, Education, Gardening, Food and Recipes. Government and public policy. This report is made to the Board of Trustees, Bexley Public Radio Foundation. A copy of the report has been provided to the WCRX-LP Community Programming Advisory Committee.
